Tolkien at Exeter College – a new publication
The article previously posted here, written for the Tolkien conference held at Exeter College, Oxford, in 2006, has been superseded by a completely new account based on fresh research undertaken in 2013–14.
Published as a monograph with the help of the college, it contains 64 pages, 17,000 words, and more than 40 images, including previously unseen pictures by and of Tolkien. Planet Narnia author Michael Ward says it is‘a must-read for all Tolkien aficionados’. French fantasy website Elbakin.net calls it ‘riche en surprises et en découvertes … une lecture à conseiller à tous les fans de Tolkien qui s’intéressent tout particulièrement à la genèse de la Terre du Milieu’ [‘rich in surprises and discoveries … a recommended read for all Tolkien fans interested particularly in the genesis of Middle-earth’].
Copies are on sale from me here, or alternatively in person from the college lodge in Turl Street, Oxford.
